What is a Resurfacing Skin Peel?

Chemical Peels have been used for decades to revitalize and resurface skin. They are excellent for people of all ages, from teens with acne, to baby boomers looking for a refresher for their face, but who don’t want to go to the extreme of plastic surgery.  A peel is a process that removes several layers of sun damaged skin cells, leaving fresh skin which has a more even surface and color. It may stimulate new collagen to be formed, improving skin texture.

As we age, the accumulated effects of sun exposure, pollutants, acne, and scarring can damage our skin and cause us to look older than we are. Such skin damage can be treated with a chemical peel, a non-invasive procedure designed to promote cell growth and produce smoother, clearer skin.

The result of the first peel may be subtle at first, but after repeated peels, significant improvement is usually evident. While doing just one peel will yield a subtle to moderate result, it is the norm to do a series of peels to achieve the best results. Keep in mind that skin needs a considerable amount of stimulation to change; peels are typically not a "one shot" deal.

Superficial peels result in mild facial redness and occasional swelling which usually resolve within 48 hours. The peeling is similar to sunburn. Most people can continue their normal activities.

Peels Will Help Improve:
*Dull drab complexions *mature skin appearance *fine lines and wrinkles
* acne and superficial acne scarring *environmentally damaged skin *uneven pigmentation

A Chemical Peel is NOT a substitute for a facelift. It will not lift or firm sagging skin.

What is the process like?
A solution will be applied to your cleansed facial skin, a process that usually takes no more than 20 minutes. You may feel a stinging sensation as the peel solution is applied, but this feeling will pass.
You will most likely have several layers of solution or protective cream on your face that must remain there for 12-24 hours. Do not schedule a peel if you are planning to shower afterwards, or attend an event/party where you need to apply makeup.
To obtain best results, you must not wash your face for 12-24 hours.

After treatment
After a chemical peel, your skin may feel tight. A layer of skin is preparing to exfoliate.  It is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness, tenderness and dryness of the skin. However, these conditions will disappear as the skin adjusts to treatment. These temporary side effects that you experience will not prevent you from working or engaging in your normal activities.
A fresher and improved skin texture will result with continued treatments.
Remember, protecting your skin from the sun is also VERY important following these peels.

A Note regarding the word "Peel"
Some Clients get hung up on the word “Peel”. Your face is not going to fall off, nor are you going to look like a burn victim, like Samantha on Sex in the City".  Also, peeling skin is not necessarily an indicator that your peel was a success, or not a success. If the solutions have been applied to your face, trust us, they are working and improving your skin.  Do not assume that lack of peeling means your treatment "didn't work" or will be any less effective than if you were displaying visible peeling. Doing a peel doesn't necessarily mean you will see visible "peeling". Every person’s skin responds differently, and you may have a different response with each treatment. Some clients experience a lot of flaking/ peeling, some do not. It is impossible to predict what your skin will do, however it is our experience that with each subsequent treatment, clients experience a diminishing of flaking/peeling.

Preparing for your Peel
First off, you will need to discontinue using most of your regular skincare products.  Before your treatment, you must pre-treat the skin for at least 7 days with a preparation kit to extend, maximize, and enhance the results of your peel.
Pre-treating the skin serves several purposes: It provides early detection of possible sensitivities/allergies to formula ingredients, it prepares the skin so that the actual peel procedure will be more comfortable (less stinging and irritation), and it greatly aids in producing optimal results from your treatment.
** You must discontinue the use of tanning booths and tanning in general while undergoing these treatments. It has been proven that UV exposure ages skin, and you will be wasting your time and money if you continue to go tanning after doing peel treatments, as well as putting yourself at serious risk for excelerated damage to your skin.

How do I get started?
In order to have a peel treatment, you must have a consultation prior to your appointment. During your consultation, we will have you fill out an evaluation form to determine if a peel is appropriate for you based on your expectations, skin condition, allergies, etc...We  have a variety of peels and products so that we may customize a treatment depending on your various desires and needs.
Please do not hesitate to call if you are interested in receiving a skin evaluation and treatment plan.
If you are determined to be a candidate for chemical peel, you will need to get your pre-peel prep kit to use for at least one week before your peel.
